Update on Callie

So, we've had unreliable internet for a few days now. I've made another call to our internet provider, one of these days we'll get what we're paying for . . . Anyway, Callie's follow up with our family doctor was canceled once he saw that she did have VUR. He referred us to a specialist in Peoria with whom we quickly made an appointment. Unfortunately, the reviews of this doctor by a friend at church were less than stellar to say the least. We decided that, even if people think it's an overreaction, we should take Callie up to Mayo Clinic. My family knows some doctors up there and had them refer us to a pediatric urologist. We've made an appointment for October 21st. Until then, Callie is on a preventative dose of antibiotic to make sure that she doesn't get another UTI before she can be seen by Dr. Kramer. The problem with that is, we're having a little bit of trouble finding a medicine that she's not allergic to. We had to go back to the doctor...

Test Results and Playing the Waiting Game

Today was our day at the hospital. Callie was uneasy about the general idea of going to the doctor in the first place, so convincing her to sit still for these tests was nearly impossible, not to mention when the tests got uncomfortable . . . Oh boy, it was quite a day. The radiologist told me that Callie does have vesicoureteral reflux on her left side. This, however, does not necessarily mean that she will have to undergo surgery to correct the problem, but it does mean that we are one step closer to possibly needing it. We won't know for sure what the outcome will be until Tuesday when we see our family doctor. Depending on what he decides, we could be going to a urologist next. It seems like a long process and more time to let worrying set in, but I'm just trying to keep thanking God for the chance to correct this before a more serious problem occurred. My past posts have been all about Callie, but Gabriel's here too! He's a calm, happy baby who sleeps amazingly wel...

Callie's Tests Scheduled

Callie's tests are scheduled for next Wednesday, September 15 starting at 8:30 am. Fortunately, they are supposed to give her something to help her relax during the procedures. She hasn't a fever since Tuesday and seems to be feeling 100% better. Thanks for all the prayers so far and please keep praying for these tests! God bless you and yours this week!

Scary Things and True Blessings

Callie on Monday, the day after our hospital visit, with a special treat from Granny Great It all started Saturday afternoon. Callie didn't want to go down for quiet time and was really fussy about it. When quiet time was over (and she'd been crying for most of it), she felt really hot to me. I took her temperature and it was 100 degrees, but I reassured myself that it was mainly because she'd been so worked up. I said that I'd take it again later and I was sure it was going to be lower. So we went outside to walk and instead of playing, Callie just sat on the porch, which is just not like her at all. So we took her in, gave her a bath, and got ready for bed. I took her temperature again and it was a little higher than her normal at 98 degrees. But no big deal, right? It was 1:15 am when Callie came out of her room crying and felt like she was on fire. We took her temperature again and it was 102.9 degrees. We started tylenol and Philip slept on her floor next to her fo...
