GULP!

I made this observation about a week ago, and I thought I'd share it. Last week, I was rushing out the door to Callie's story time and Gabriel's doctor's appointment, I forgot to bring the kids water cups. Not such a big deal for Callie, as she can drink through a straw, but Gabe has not yet mastered that skill yet. The doctor's appointment took longer than I expected and we ended up stopping in at the local restaurant to get lunch since it was much later than the kids normal eating time. But alas, I had no cup for Gabriel so I ended up having to use the straw as a syringe and drop the water into his mouth. As he eagerly opened his mouth and swallowed each gulp of clean, fresh water I realized that he had no idea what was in the straw the first time I offered it to him, but he opened his mouth for it anyway. It could have been anything, water, milk, juice, soda, and he would have swallowed it. It could have also been polluted, full of germs, or any number of things ...

Visitors and Summer Fun!

We've finished with swim lessons. Unfortunately, I only made it to the first two. The third week, Gabriel was sick and I was not feeling very well and the final week, I was sick AGAIN! So it's been a few years since I've had anything but a bad cold, but this year I've had the stomach bug three times! I'm calling an unfair on this one . . . :P Oh well. Better now, not fully recovered, but much better. The Bookers and Grandma Foshee visited us for about a week and we had a lot of fun! The kids really enjoyed all the extra attention. We had Gabriel's 1st birthday party with everyone here and it was a lot of fun. We grilled out, and had some of Gabe's favorites on the side, including macaroni and cheese, baked beans and cantaloupe. He also had his first taste of sweets. He was pretty excited about the cake, but not so much about the ice cream. Kind of funny. Gabe also started walking on his first birthday. Yesterday, he stood up for the first time in the middle ...

Gabriel's 1 year old!

1 year ago today at 10:18, Gabriel was 10 hours, 5 minutes old. It's hard to believe it's been a year, it's gone by so quickly. My little man is such a blessing in my life -- I want to hang on to every moment so tightly, it seems like the time just flies by. I was going to take some pictures of him on his birthday this morning, but of course, he fell asleep early! :) Gabe's not walking yet. He's so close. I don't think it's an ability thing at this point, but a choice on his part. He's so funny. You can see it in his face that he's contemplating taking that step, but he just wants to get to where ever he's going so fast, he just ends up crawling. He has been taking 2 or 3 steps without hanging on to anything this week especially. We had our first swim lessons on Saturday for both Gabriel and Callie. Of course, Callie loves the water so she had a blast. Gabriel was a little unsure at first. He was holding his body very rigid at first, holding his ...
