Crazy Week!

It has been one crazy week. We got back from Chicago and launched into holiday mode. My Uncle Myron and his family arrived from MA the same day we got back .

Saturday, we had our first meal together, the traditional before-the-holiday jambalaya. Unfortunately, Callie wasn't able to try it this year since it has shrimp in it. Maybe next year she'll be ready for shellfish.

On Sunday, my parents went to see a house that's going up for auction in December. It wasn't exactly what they're looking for, so we're all still living here at the farm, wondering when things are going to come together.

Tuesday morning Callie and I went to the doctor to get our flu shots. Callie handled it well. We checked her weight while we were there. She is now 19lbs 2.5oz! Tuesday was also Cedric's 4th birthday party at Granny and Paw-Paw's house. Callie was able to enjoy this meal with us. She is definitely all about her food. Callie also decided to show off for everybody, pulling up and cruising around the furniture. Then, all of the sudden, she let go of the furniture and just stood there all by herself! I thought, 'Good grief! I have to babyproof AGAIN!'

One of our family traditions is to play card games after the meal. There's a lot of competition within the group, a lot of tough talking going on . . . :) We enjoy our time together. Well, Callie is not content just to sit and watch the grown ups, she has to be in on the action! So Granny Great and Paw Paw gathered up their extra cards, which are now Callie's cards. She sits and plays with them while the grown-ups play their games. She shuffles, flips, and bends them all around. It's pretty funny to watch!

Today, Callie is officially 9 months old! (Can you believe it?? I can't!) We went and got our family portraits taken with the whole gang. Callie got a little upset towards the end, but I think we were able to get some good shots before the tears started.

Tomorrow, we are going to have Thanksgiving, followed by Christmas for those of us who won't be together in December. I have been busy wrapping presents and trying to keep up with what seems like endless laundry . . . hopefully, one of these days I'll be caught up! Ha!

Sunday Morning

Yesterday, Callie came into my room while I was finishing up getting ready for church by putting on my jewelry. Callie: Mommy, you're very pretty. Me: Callie, that's very sweet. Thank you! Callie: You're welcome. Daddy's pretty too! Me: Oh Callie, you need to go tell him that . . . :)

Meanwhile, back at the Farm . . .

We're having some exciting happenings around the Booker Farm so I thought I'd write a little bit about what's going on with the kiddos. Callie Callie is so excited that we now have two dogs and three cats. Their names are (dogs) Belle and Ariel, (cats) Duchess, Dixie, and Thomas O'Malley -- Tom for short. She is very excited to be wrapping up another school year and looking forward to our travels this summer. She is taking on more responsibility around the house (which I love) and doing an excellent job for the most part in taking care of all the animals. I'm certainly enjoying watching her grow and blossom in so many ways, but this is especially significant to me. Philip and I are really striving to raise our children to be responsible, caring, and kind adults! I'm now teaching her on Wednesday Night Bible Class and I love observing her for the first time in a classroom setting as her teacher as well. She is a delight to have in class, if I may s...

Sometimes it's hard . . .

I feel like I've finally awoken from a long, chaotic dream. The past couple of weeks have gone so much more smoothly. The first 3 (or so) months with a new baby just throws my world upside down and inside out. While I'm in it, I find it hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel --  that time when we all adapt to each other and find our new routine. I'm not saying I don't love it, because I do. I just don't love all of it! So I'll do a quick little catch up, write Nolan's birth story in another post and we'll be back on track. For a little bit at least. I think I've said before that I love writing. I mean love it. But for some reason, I've never been good at keeping a journal. I really want to. There are so many moments I want to make sure I write down and remember and I want to be good at keeping track of everything. But over and over again I prove it's just not something that I'm consistent with. It irritates me to the point th...
