Ok, so I did miss every three days this week. Maybe if I explain the week I had, everyone will understand.
It has been absolutely crazy! Philip and I are getting ready to go to Chicago this next week. The week after that our family is coming in and we're having Thanksgiving/Christmas/Birthday Party. So I've been Christmas shopping twice this week and birthday present hunting. This is probably the latest I have ever been Christmas shopping -- I'm usually done by August. Of course, this August was spent getting ready to move to IL . . . maybe I should give myself a break, but it's definitely been a stress since I'm not used to it.
On top of that stress, Callie's been a little bit of a fussy teether lately (or at least that's the only thing I can think of that would make her this fussy). Not only does she want to be with me every minute, sometimes she can't decide what she wants. So we play the up, down, play, no play, sit, stand, rock, swing, etc, etc, etc game every few minutes until we finally settle down for a while.
She wants to stand all the time and has been cruising around the living room. Do I have an early walker on my hands? Probably. I guess time will tell, but I have a strong feeling I'm running out of it (and about to be running after it!)!
She's been a good shopper for me this week - but that's nothing new. She loves to be out seeing people and things that she's never seen before. Yesterday, we were out all day because I had a haircut and some errands to run. We ate lunch at Culver's (kind of like a really awesome Dairy Queen) and there was a boy with Down's Syndrome helping to clean the dining area. I had gotten a glass of water and green beans for Callie, and I was cutting up the green beans on the tray to feed her. Well, I got up about the middle of the meal to refill our drinks (Granny came with me to help with Callie during my haircut) and I looked back and this boy was trying to take the tray from Granny. She was saying "No, I need that to cut the green beans on." and he kept telling her "It's alright ma'am, I've got it." So, I get back there just as the person who was there with this boy came over to the table. He told him that she still needed the tray. Finally, he put it down but then he grabbed Callie's glass of water and took it. Instead of worrying about it, I just went up to the counter and asked for another glass of water . . . I told Granny I'd rather do that then see them not employing someone with a disability. At least he was on top of things and trying to do his job! I've seen a lot of people who aren't as eager as he was to do things right.
Anyway, Callie has been eating more and more as you can tell from the story. This week, instead of feeding her pureed veggies and fruits and then supplementing with parts of our meal, we've started feeding her only what we're eating for dinner, cut up into small pieces for her to feed herself. She absolutely loves it. She's so independent already, I wonder what battles of the wills I'm going to have later.
I'm looking forward to having a break this next week, taking a mini vacation while we're in Chicago. We're not too far from a bunch of shops and a mall, so I hope to be out a lot because Callie always enjoys our shopping and errands trips together.
I think that is all the major events of this week. I must apologize to my loyal reader Kaylin for not keeping my promise to update every three days. I also would like to say that the promise would be a lot easier to keep if I wasn't sharing a computer with 3 other adults, 2 of which claim ownership of the computer . . . :) Not an excuse, I know. Scout's honor, I'll try to do better!
