Our Christmases!

So, now we've had our third and final Christmas and I'm ready to post again! Callie had her first first Christmas at Thanksgiving with the Schirer-Suters and Great Great Uncle Don. We had a great time with our family and Callie had lots of fun tearing up tissue paper. Callie and Cedric got along really well; Cedric just couldn't get enough of her!

Our second first Christmas as the Booker 3 was in Illinois. We had dinner with our preacher and his wife on Saturday night and right as they were going to leave, our power went out for the second time in two days. We had to spend the night without electricity. We bundled Callie up and cuddled for warmth. By the time we woke up in the morning, it was 50 degrees in the house.

Fortunately, Granny Great and Paw-Paw had gotten their power back on around 4am, so we took all the presents into their house and showered and warmed up over there. We opened all our presents and had a great time with it. We were prepared to spend the night in there, but our power was restored around 1 pm, so we were able to go back out to the farm.

Unfortunately, with all the power outages, we were not able to update our blog for quite awhile.

We left for Chicago O'Hare in a panic trying to outrun the latest ice storm to hit Illinois (global warming, anyone?) where we spent the night at a hotel in anticipation of our flight the next day. We were worried about our flight leaving since over 500 flights had been cancelled the day before. Fortunately, our flight was leaving on time and they were even able to get standby tickets for an earlier flight. We were hoping to get that so we would arrive in Colorado Springs before 10:30pm.

So we went to the gate for the earlier flight and we went up to the counter to ask what our chances were of getting on the earlier flight, and the guy looked at us and said "You're confirmed on the flight, you're definitely getting on," and looked at us like we were crazy. He said he was working on seat assignments and he would call us when he had them ready. So, we got our first seat assignments and sat in excited anticipation that we were going to arrive in Colorado 3 hours earlier than expected. All of the sudden, we heard them call our names again, and they had upgraded us to first class! And we were well taken care of! First, drinks, then hot nuts, then dinner, then cookies, and more drinks throughout . . . I was really excited! Of course, Callie thought she had to eat every time we did, so we all shared.

We arrived in Colorado safely, and on time. Our bags were out right away and we were able to leave the airport and visit with the Booker side of the family. Our third Christmas was wonderful and we enjoyed the company and the gifts. :)

Since then, we've been skiing (well, Philip went snowboarding) and shopping, and trooping all over Colorado.

We go back to Illinois on the 5th to an empty house. Then, we'll be housesitting for my grandparents until the end of February. We're excited to have a house to ourselves for awhile at least! I'll add pictures to the post later once I sort through them all!

Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and has an amazing New Year's celebration! God Bless!

Sunday Morning

Yesterday, Callie came into my room while I was finishing up getting ready for church by putting on my jewelry. Callie: Mommy, you're very pretty. Me: Callie, that's very sweet. Thank you! Callie: You're welcome. Daddy's pretty too! Me: Oh Callie, you need to go tell him that . . . :)

Meanwhile, back at the Farm . . .

We're having some exciting happenings around the Booker Farm so I thought I'd write a little bit about what's going on with the kiddos. Callie Callie is so excited that we now have two dogs and three cats. Their names are (dogs) Belle and Ariel, (cats) Duchess, Dixie, and Thomas O'Malley -- Tom for short. She is very excited to be wrapping up another school year and looking forward to our travels this summer. She is taking on more responsibility around the house (which I love) and doing an excellent job for the most part in taking care of all the animals. I'm certainly enjoying watching her grow and blossom in so many ways, but this is especially significant to me. Philip and I are really striving to raise our children to be responsible, caring, and kind adults! I'm now teaching her on Wednesday Night Bible Class and I love observing her for the first time in a classroom setting as her teacher as well. She is a delight to have in class, if I may s...

Sometimes it's hard . . .

I feel like I've finally awoken from a long, chaotic dream. The past couple of weeks have gone so much more smoothly. The first 3 (or so) months with a new baby just throws my world upside down and inside out. While I'm in it, I find it hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel --  that time when we all adapt to each other and find our new routine. I'm not saying I don't love it, because I do. I just don't love all of it! So I'll do a quick little catch up, write Nolan's birth story in another post and we'll be back on track. For a little bit at least. I think I've said before that I love writing. I mean love it. But for some reason, I've never been good at keeping a journal. I really want to. There are so many moments I want to make sure I write down and remember and I want to be good at keeping track of everything. But over and over again I prove it's just not something that I'm consistent with. It irritates me to the point th...
