So, I have this feeling that this is just going to be one of those weeks . . . .
It all started yesterday when we were running a little later to the airport than I'm comfortable with due to some traffic on our way to Denver. As we were driving, I noticed a particular smell (you know what I'm talking about) coming from our little angel in the carseat next to me. Well, we were late enough that once we got to the airport, we got directly in line for our boarding passes, figuring we would deal with her once we got past security. The security line was fairly long and then we had to take an elevator and a train to get to our boarding gate. No bathrooms along the way. We find our gate as they're beginning to start pre-boarding (i.e. us!) and look over and see a family bathroom across the hall. So, Philip and I both run in there to change Callie.
Yeah, it was everywhere. It was to the point where we debated throwing away her entire outfit. We managed to get her cleaned up, with a new diaper and outfit and still make the last of the pre-boarding. And we prayed like crazy that she wouldn't have another episode while we were on the plane since A) There isn't really a good place to change a diaper (especially that level of diaper) on a plane and B) We were out of spare outfits . . .
Thankfully nothing else happened and we made it safely back to Chicago and eventually back home yesterday evening.
I wake up today with a fresh start, not having a ton of laundry to do today thanks to the Baxters generous offer of washer and dryer services and I even managed to put most of our luggage away last night!
Breakfast went slower than usual and Callie wasn't as into eating as she normally is. She pushed most of her Cheerios off onto the floor. Unusual, but I didn't really think much about it. I cleaned up breakfast hoping to get a little time to myself, but Callie would have none of it, insisting I stay with her while she watched Sesame Street.
So, the morning passes and it's time for lunch. I prepare a normal favorite for Callie: ham, green beans, and oyster crackers. Again, she's not eating as well as she normally does. As I'm making my lunch and pondering why my good eater has suddenly turned picky, I hear the distinct sound of water trickling onto the floor. I turn to the sink, but both the faucets are off. So, I turn toward Callie, who is holding her cup completely upside down. All the water from her sippy cup is rolling down her legs and onto the floor.
I set the cup back upright and get some paper towels to mop up the floor, figuring I can clean her up after the meal. We finish eating (or at least I did, she barely ate anything -- for her at least) and I get her sleeper off and take her upstairs to change. I decided that if I would shower first, I could turn the heater on and she would be plenty warm in her diaper and then I could put a fresh outfit on her right before I get ready to leave -- Less time to get messy. :) So, I put some toys in the bathroom, place everything not baby friendly out of her reach and jumped in the shower.
She's playing right along and I'm enjoying a semi-peaceful shower when suddenly I realize it's quiet . . . too quiet! I look out of the shower and there she is with a tube of after color conditioner, squeezing the contents into her mouth! Great! Me being the paranoid mother that I am, I immediately jumped out of the shower and called the doctor to make sure I shouldn't induce vomiting or life flight her to the nearest children's hospital. He said everything should be fine as long as she didn't get a whole lot, but that she might be a little fussy or gassy the rest of the day.
Might be??? I've been listening to her scream nearly the rest of the day. Well, not right now, she's finally asleep. Heaving from all the crying, but asleep none the less. I'm supposed to go to Peoria and meet Philip for dinner in 45 minutes. Then, I have an appointment at 7:00 which I am woefully underprepared for. Hopefully it goes well anyway!
That's all for now. Hope everyone had a wonderful New Year's celebration and is ready for an exciting year ahead! :)
