Back Home and Back to the Routine

So, as you can see from our travel posts, we had a great time on vacation. So totally worth it! I loved breaking routine for the first time since our honeymoon and getting to plan a trip all to ourselves. Callie had a great time too, she told everyone who asked her at church on Wednesday all about the cows (in Amish country, for which she was carrying a brochure). The last few days of our trip was spent hopping from one country, antique, and Amish shop to another. We really enjoyed our lazy days, browsing through unique knick knacks and treasures.

Last week, I had my first "every 2 weeks" appointment on Thursday which was delayed and then canceled by two unexpected births back to back. The office staff kept apologizing to me for the inconvenience. I guess I just hope that no one holds it against me if their appointment is delayed or canceled because of when Gabe decides to come, so I shouldn't be put out with anyone who "decides" to have a baby when I have an appointment. It's kind of the nature of the job, right? I'm actually surprised that it doesn't happen to me more often with the many, many times I have had to go to the doctor with Callie and now with Gabe.

My appointment was rescheduled for today. Gabe's heartbeat was strong at 156 beats per minutes. He was pretty active while we were there which is always comforting. He's a lot less active baby than Callie, which is nice and scary at the same time. (Scary because I find myself thinking, now when's the last time he kicked? Is he alright? Should I be worried?) But usually when the scary thoughts start running through my head he reads my mind and gives me a little nudge or roll like, "I'm ok mommy, don't worry about me!" He's also very considerate. Every time I lay down in bed, even though he's very active between dinner and bedtime, he stops kicking when I'm trying to go to sleep.

Since we've been back, we've been going through and sorting lots and lots of little boy clothes (thanks to the Schirer-Suters!) and trying to get back in the routine of being home. I've got to say that I got pretty spoiled not having to cook for 10 days! It's hard to get back in the menu/grocery shopping mode. We have a lot of work to do yet on the house, and we're probably going to have a garage sale to help clear out some things before June!

In addition to that, I got my seeds today to start my garden this year today. I also got some herbs to pot. The last time I tried to grow herbs, the birds ate them all so I had thought that maybe I shouldn't waste more money doing that. But I think if I put them in pots up on my porch, maybe the cats will discourage the birds from getting to them?!? One can hope!

In Callie news, she has become much, much more vocal and expressive during and since our trip. She's very funny most of the time. On Saturday, when she woke up from her nap, she came out of her room and went and stood at the gate to the stairs and yelled down to us, "Daddy, I need some water!" Much better to wake up to than crying! We also have a neighbor's dog that's been coming to our house lately. We've called our neighbors several times to let them know when their dog is down at our house, even though she doesn't bother anything just to let them know where she is. Our neighbor told us to make it unpleasant for her to come down her by telling her sternly to go home and yelling at her if need be. So, I've been trying that (to no avail, I may add). Callie would hear me telling the dog "Go Home!" and she would come out and say "GO HOME!" And then later, if I hadn't said anything for awhile, she would come out and ask, "Doggie here?" I would tell her that yes, the dog was still here. She would wag her finger at the door and say, "Go Home Doggie! Go Home!"

Anyway, that's the latest going on around the Booker household. The next couple months has been set aside to really working hard to get everything ready for Gabriel's arrival. We have a lot to do in less and less time every day! Hope everyone had a great start to their week.

God bless you and yours this week!
