What a week!

So this week has proven to be a rather tumultuous one!

It started last Friday when all of the sudden my feet began to swell and wouldn't go down. They stayed swollen through Monday (which was, of course, a holiday = doctor's office not open) to a pretty large size making my feet not only unsightly and purplish but very hard to walk on. I call Tuesday up to the doctor to tell them I'm not getting any relief from the swelling despite staying out of the heat, taking it easy and putting my feet up periodically, and drinking plenty of fluids, so they ask me to come in. They check me over, ask me some questions, and apparently I gave the wrong answer so the doctor sent me to the hospital for some labs and asked me to come back in on Thursday. Went back on Thursday, the swelling was down to a "reasonable" level, but they told me to call if I had any more problems, especially a more severe headache. So would you like to guess what woke me up at 3:00 am on Friday? That's right, a terrible, feel it down in your teeth, your eyes are going crossed because of the pain, headache. Which continued all morning until I finally called the doctor at 10:30. Their answer? "You don't have to drop everything immediately, but get the the hospital as soon as possible."

So, after finding a ride (they didn't want me to drive) and a babysitter for Callie, and calling Philip to meet me at the hospital, I was on my way thinking, maybe this was going to be it?? Not so, my readers. They kept me there, hooked up to monitors for almost exactly 5 hours, running tests upon tests. Everything checked out and we got to watch Gabriel's heartbeat the whole time stay nice and steady. My blood pressure was "excellent" and no regular contractions to be seen. My headache came and went the whole time I was there, despite the extra strength tylenol that they gave me about halfway through. Of course, it was nearly 3:00 before the doctor came and said, "Hey, have they gotten you anything to eat?" which the answer was a resounding no, I'm starving! (in stereo, as Philip was too.)

Needless to say, the biggest disappointment of my life thus far has to be the feeling of spending all day in the labor and delivery unit of the hospital and leaving with no baby in my arms. I told Philip that despite the fact that my headache is once again on and off today, I have no intention of mentioning it to my doctor again unless I feel like there's a problem with Gabe's movements as well. Not that I'm not grateful that he's being careful, but I'm starting to feel like a complainer . . .

Callie had her first Parent/Tot swim class today. Oh boy, did she enjoy it! I was so happy she was so happy, neither one of us could wipe the smile from our faces. She had a big, open grin on her face the entire class! Too bad the one thing we left at home today was our cameras! We hope to be able to get some pictures at her next go 'round. Hopefully, she enjoys it just as much as she did today!

She was very brave. Jumping into the water off the side wall, kicking and moving her arms like a pro, and she even went underwater twice! The class is full so there are 9 other kids and parents in there with us. I was surprised at how many dads were there! And I even had maternity company as there was one other woman there who was pregnant as well. I had to laugh at myself as I was trying on my swimsuit yesterday that I haven't gone out in public in a swimsuit in 2 years and the first time I decide to put one on, I'm 10 days away from giving birth! Oh well. Callie looked cute enough for the both of us! :) (And hopefully next week, I'll be able to show you what I mean!)

Callie also took all our last minute trips and even Mommy going to the hospital for the day very well, which makes me a feel a lot better about the whole leaving her while I'm having Gabe thing. She was such a trooper all week!

We're happily anticipating the arrival of Gabe, especially in light of all the drama lately. Working to finish the nursery (soon!) today and hopefully getting more things put away and organized while we wait for him to show up!

I hope everyone has had a great week! I know despite everything that happened my week was a great one because we're all healthy despite what the doctor was worried about!

God bless you and yours!

I am so glad that Callie is enjoying swim lessons. I can't wait to see the pictures. Love you guys!

Meanwhile, Back on the Farm

We've moved back out to the farmhouse with Mom and Dad for now. Granny and Paw-Paw are expected in today from they're winter retreat to South Padre Island, TX. As you can see from the previous post, we had a lot of fun in Texas with them. I'll be posting pictures from the trip on facebook either today or tomorrow. We've got a busy week ahead of us, getting ready for the Bookers and Eric to be here for Spring Break. We're excited to have our first visitors! Monday is going to be Callie's first birthday party, so I have some prep work to do. :) Mom and Dad have had to make an unexpected trip up to Mayo Clinic this week for some tests for Mom. They're not sure if they're going to be back in time for Callie's birthday party. We went out to eat with them on Callie's birthday just in case they don't make it back. Please say a prayer for Mom's test results to come back with good news! (And maybe that they can make it back in time for Callie'...

Things that I've discovered

I've discovered that not having the internet "in house" leads to few and far between blog postings. I've discovered that (according to Calle) Illinois dirt is "Mmmmm - Mmmm!" I've discovered that Callie loves to play in water, even when the water is in the toilet. I've discovered that babies who have been successfully weaned still like to be under Mommy's shirt, especially in public places, such as church. I've discovered that Philip really, really tries to do things the way I want them done, even if he doesn't always succeed. ;) I've discovered that Callie will smell like garlic for two days if she eats it. I've discovered that people with imposing personalities will impose on you no matter what the situation. I don't understand how they do it!! I've discovered that I don't always understand logically how something works itself out, but I know that God deserves the credit! I've discovered that the maintence man do...

Finally an Update! Amazing!

I've been waiting to post an update so I could add some funny videos that we've shot over the past weeks, but I haven't been able to set up my computer with the software on it . . . so I guess you'll just have to settle for a long post and some pictures. The move went well. My dad, Philip, and Eric loaded the moving truck by themselves because no one showed up to help. We got everything done around midnight and went to sleep on sleeping bags in our then cleared out master bedroom. The next day, Mom, Dad, Callie, and I took off for IL leaving Philip and Meeko to travel up early Saturday morning. We all made good time and it was a safe trip. Callie got a little upset in the last hour, but that's understandable. Philip had a week before he started work which was really nice. It helped us get settled in (as much as we can) and set things up the way we needed them. We spent a lot of time together and even went up to Chicago. For those of you who don't know our situat...
