4 More Days!

The kids playing in their newest toy (and possibly mommy's new best friend), a wagon from Granny Great and Paw Paw! Gabriel was so funny riding around in this. Callie kept grabbing his shoulders and trying to get him to lay back on her, but he refused and white knuckled the sides as they traveled round and round our still empty dining room. (We're ready and waiting for our brand new table . . . more info later in the post!)

Gabriel is sitting up all by himself as of Thursday, December 16th. Just a few days too late for the professional Christmas pictures, but we're happy to get some of him in front of the Christmas tree enjoying himself!

He is so proud of himself, he doesn't want to lay down anymore. I took him to the doctor on Friday (he had to get four shots!) and he refused to lay down on the doctor's table! By the way, Gabriel was a whopping 15 lbs. 10 oz at his 6 months appointment! haha! He's just coming up off the 10th percentile (maybe the 12th percentile now) but he's growing and thriving so we're not worried about him. :)

Callie and Gabriel play so well together. Callie is great at showing Gabriel how to play with different things. This is now one of Gabriel's favorite toys to sit at and pound on. Callie's even getting better about sharing, after a little convincing, and acknowledging that Gabriel can, in fact, hold his own toys to play with. :)

Gabriel loves his new freedom of sitting up in his high chair (which he's been doing for about 2 weeks now). He can hang on to his toys and watch mommy work in the kitchen. He can even practice getting his puffs in his hand. If only he could figure out how to coordinate getting the puff into his hand, then opening his hand so he could get it in his mouth! But the fun of learning keeps him distracted long enough for mommy to eat her meal most of the time! :)

Gabriel's started eating puffs. Mainly because the boy loves his food so much, he gets so mad if you're eating and he's not, it's been getting harder and harder for me to try to eat regular meals. He makes the funniest faces while his gumming his puffs. Here's an example of the faces, but it's not the same as seeing it in motion (and hearing it too!!) He makes me laugh out loud every time!

Here's both the kids enjoying the Christmas tree just before bedtime. We decided to go simple this year with just white lights and a big tin star on top. The simple elegance in our country house is just what the room needed. I'm afraid that I really won't want to take the Christmas decorations down because I'm so happy with the way the room looks with all the decorations!

Like I've said before, Gabriel loves his food. Here he's imagining what Callie's animal crackers taste like by sucking on his fingers as he watches her eat. He's hilarious!

Gabriel was not too fond of his Santa Claus hat, and kept trying to pull it off. Unfortunately, he only managed to cover his whole face after struggling against mommy getting a good picture of him in his hat!

Okay, so I did manage to get a couple cute pictures as he was rearranging his hat! :)

Just four more days until all our loved ones are here to help us celebrate our first Christmas at the farmhouse! We are so excited to be able to show everyone the place we will be living for a very long time (God willing). Callie is at the age where she is very excited for Christmas. On our drive to church she ooohs and ahhs and screeches with every light display as we go through town. We constantly hear, "Ooohhh! Look at that one!"

In preparation for our BIG family Christmas this year, Philip and I saved our pennies and commissioned the building of a brand new old dining room table. What do I mean by that? We were fortunate enough to find wooden beams that were pulled out of a church that was built in the 1850's to make our table. We got a sample piece from the builder the other day, and let me tell you, I think it's going to look amazing! It was supposed to be done this Friday, but unfortunately, the bug that has been making rounds and some snags in the project delayed the table's debut for a couple of days. We hope to get the table in place Tuesday evening, and yes, I will be posting pictures! I think it will be an amazing piece that we will keep for the rest of our lives, and hopefully pass on to our children.

I think that's all the latest news! Most of our efforts this month have been focused on getting ready to have a wonderful Christmas celebration with our families!

God bless you and yours this week and have a very Merry Christmas! :)

Sunday Morning

Yesterday, Callie came into my room while I was finishing up getting ready for church by putting on my jewelry. Callie: Mommy, you're very pretty. Me: Callie, that's very sweet. Thank you! Callie: You're welcome. Daddy's pretty too! Me: Oh Callie, you need to go tell him that . . . :)

Meanwhile, back at the Farm . . .

We're having some exciting happenings around the Booker Farm so I thought I'd write a little bit about what's going on with the kiddos. Callie Callie is so excited that we now have two dogs and three cats. Their names are (dogs) Belle and Ariel, (cats) Duchess, Dixie, and Thomas O'Malley -- Tom for short. She is very excited to be wrapping up another school year and looking forward to our travels this summer. She is taking on more responsibility around the house (which I love) and doing an excellent job for the most part in taking care of all the animals. I'm certainly enjoying watching her grow and blossom in so many ways, but this is especially significant to me. Philip and I are really striving to raise our children to be responsible, caring, and kind adults! I'm now teaching her on Wednesday Night Bible Class and I love observing her for the first time in a classroom setting as her teacher as well. She is a delight to have in class, if I may s...

Sometimes it's hard . . .

I feel like I've finally awoken from a long, chaotic dream. The past couple of weeks have gone so much more smoothly. The first 3 (or so) months with a new baby just throws my world upside down and inside out. While I'm in it, I find it hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel --  that time when we all adapt to each other and find our new routine. I'm not saying I don't love it, because I do. I just don't love all of it! So I'll do a quick little catch up, write Nolan's birth story in another post and we'll be back on track. For a little bit at least. I think I've said before that I love writing. I mean love it. But for some reason, I've never been good at keeping a journal. I really want to. There are so many moments I want to make sure I write down and remember and I want to be good at keeping track of everything. But over and over again I prove it's just not something that I'm consistent with. It irritates me to the point th...
