Why Stop Now?

I've been updating the blog every five days, so why stop now? There's actually been a number of happenings in the Booker household that everyone needs to know! :)

Ok, so let's start with Thursday, January 13th. Gabriel starts inch worming his way around the house. Fast forward to exactly one week later (Thursday, January 20th)- Gabriel pulls himself up to a standing position while in the laundry basket. What does this Thursday have in store?? Who knows, but I'm sure hoping it's not cruising the furniture because there's only so much I can do to keep him from growing up too fast!

Gabriel's latest tricks are clapping when asked to clap (most of the time - he's not a performing monkey), waving hello/goodbye to people, and bestowing wet slobbery kisses on me (just me so far) when I ask for one.

Callie has been using the potty consistently since Friday, January 21st. Yes, we finally had a breakthrough. I have not changed a Callie diaper in nearly five days (though I have cleaned up a few accidents) but she's doing so well! She's even gone to the bathroom, turned on the light, got undressed from the bottom down, sat on the toilet, done her thing and flushed -- all without me even being in the room! We've reserved our hotel for a weekend trip up to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago which was her chosen reward for filling out her potty chart. We're planning to go the aquarium and the Rainforest Cafe, and anything else her little heart desires (within reason, of course). It will be her special weekend!

In parent news, I got a job! I'd been keeping an eye on positions that would be coming up at the school for a little bit later, when the kids would be in school. This came a little earlier than I expected, but still allows me to be home with the kids all day most days, and even lets me bring them with me if need be. I will be the new Scholastic Bowl Coach at the Junior High School. It's a total commitment of about 4 months each year. We'll see how it goes!

Philip is excited that I have a little something on the side that I can do, but still be available to the kids 99% of the time. It's a pretty awesome situation!

As most of you know, Philip is really busy at work this year. We're happy that he is playing a big role in this transition and is definitely a valued part of the team, but we're a little disappointed at the situation it puts us in as far as being able to take our vacations. We reached the decision that we're not going plan any extended vacations this year, due to the fact that things with his schedule can change and they could need him to stay at the last minute. Sad, because 3/4 of our family lives far away from us and we look forward to visiting them most years, but at least right now, the kids are young enough they probably won't remember all the details of not being able to visit people this year.

We hope everyone has had a good start to their week! I have my first meeting with my team tomorrow. If everyone could say a quick prayer that the kids are receptive and I am not too nervous and find the right words, I would really appreciate it!

God bless you and yours this week!
