August and the First Part of September

Callie and Gabriel both got to enjoy their first ice cream cone! (We just don't have sweets that often, but Callie got free coupons for participating in the reading program this summer.) We all 4 shared the two cones, we scraped the top part off for Philip and I and the kids got the cone and all the ice cream down in there. As you can see Callie enjoyed it a lot!

Gabriel enjoyed his first time on the McDonald's playground. Daddy had to help him up and down most of the tubes. He was a little scared his first time down the slide, but as you can see, it soon turned into pure joy and grunting while pointing at it as if to say, "Again, Again!"

The dashing duo making their way down the slide.

Gabe had a lot of fun crawling through all the tubes, Daddy was sore for a few days . . .

Gabriel enjoying his first ice cream cone! :)

Gabriel suddenly fell asleep in his swing while I was pushing him. It was too cute and he actually got a pretty good nap in it!

Gabriel, Callie, and Daddy playing the latest game in our house -- Daddy horsey. Gabriel finds it necessary to put various foods in Daddy's mouth to keep him well fed.

Callie's hair is getting SO long! I think we're going to grow it out a little bit more and then donate it to Locks of Love if they'll accept it (I don't know all their rules).

We went to the State Fair in August. It was a long, but fun day. Mommy was in charge of the sunscreen, so naturally, she was the only one burned because she was worried about everyone else! The funniest part was that the back of my tank top was crochet, so I looked like I had giraffe spots part of the way down my spine. Anyway, we saw our church exhibit, and a horse show, a diving show, and much, much more! We had a very fun day.

Gabe on his laptop. I think he may have seen this too much . . .

We enjoyed a day at the pool. Also, a freebie for us thanks to Callie's reading program completion.

Callie and a little girl at Giveaway Day singing at the organ. It was adorable.

August started with daddy being away for a weekend trip. Gabriel doesn't mind too much as long as Mommy's cooking!

Gabriel's latest trick is climbing up onto chairs and then up onto the table. This means that nothing in our house is safe. Especially, Daddy's cup. It seems to be Gabriel's favorite new hobby, ever since he learned to drink to out of a straw a couple of weeks ago.

Gabriel has lots of words now. "Hop", "Hot", "Hat", "Up", "Down", "Cracker", "Gabriel", "Mama", "Dada", "Hi", "Hello", "Kitty", "Doggie", "Quack, Quack", (there are probably more that I can't think of right now) and Granny claims that he also said "Callie" today. Not that I don't believe her, it's just that I didn't hear it so I can't say for sure that it's what he meant. He also signs, please, more, and milk. The best part is that you can really tell what he means. He is so clear in his speech, and says things at appropriate times. I don't remember Callie ever being this verbal at 15 months. Maybe she was, and I just don't remember. Maybe I want him to be my little baby forever, so I think he's growing up too fast.

Callie counts up to 15 pretty well. She gets a little lost after that, even though she knows most numbers up to 20. She identifies most shapes and colors correctly. She remembers most of her regularly read books and is able to summarize the story while looking at the pictures. She also is big into imagination. She comes up with the funniest things. It's so fun to listen to her play with her toys and the stories she comes up with. Right now, everyone is her friend. I was looking at pictures of Rihanna online (for hair cut purposes) and she claimed that Rihanna was her friend Sammy. It's like that with all pictures, especially of kids.

Well, I think that's a good update on us. Hope all is well with our family and friends near and far! We love you and miss you!

God bless you and yours!

Sunday Morning

Yesterday, Callie came into my room while I was finishing up getting ready for church by putting on my jewelry. Callie: Mommy, you're very pretty. Me: Callie, that's very sweet. Thank you! Callie: You're welcome. Daddy's pretty too! Me: Oh Callie, you need to go tell him that . . . :)

Meanwhile, back at the Farm . . .

We're having some exciting happenings around the Booker Farm so I thought I'd write a little bit about what's going on with the kiddos. Callie Callie is so excited that we now have two dogs and three cats. Their names are (dogs) Belle and Ariel, (cats) Duchess, Dixie, and Thomas O'Malley -- Tom for short. She is very excited to be wrapping up another school year and looking forward to our travels this summer. She is taking on more responsibility around the house (which I love) and doing an excellent job for the most part in taking care of all the animals. I'm certainly enjoying watching her grow and blossom in so many ways, but this is especially significant to me. Philip and I are really striving to raise our children to be responsible, caring, and kind adults! I'm now teaching her on Wednesday Night Bible Class and I love observing her for the first time in a classroom setting as her teacher as well. She is a delight to have in class, if I may s...

Sometimes it's hard . . .

I feel like I've finally awoken from a long, chaotic dream. The past couple of weeks have gone so much more smoothly. The first 3 (or so) months with a new baby just throws my world upside down and inside out. While I'm in it, I find it hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel --  that time when we all adapt to each other and find our new routine. I'm not saying I don't love it, because I do. I just don't love all of it! So I'll do a quick little catch up, write Nolan's birth story in another post and we'll be back on track. For a little bit at least. I think I've said before that I love writing. I mean love it. But for some reason, I've never been good at keeping a journal. I really want to. There are so many moments I want to make sure I write down and remember and I want to be good at keeping track of everything. But over and over again I prove it's just not something that I'm consistent with. It irritates me to the point th...
