Getting things Done

It's been quite a while since I sat down at the computer and had time to look back through my posts and (gasp) actually give everyone an update on our little family. We had a lot more matches and practices for Scholastic Bowl this year and things just got too busy to keep up with everything. I had to let some things go for awhile, but I'm hoping that this week will get all that back on track!

One thing that got put on the back burner was Callie's official lessons. We worked here and there and did some learning games over the months, but we are planning on starting her official lessons back up this next week. As long as she's feeling up to it . . . Callie is having surgery tomorrow on her nose and having her adenoids removed. There's a small chance that the doctor will also decide to remove her tonsils as well, but he said that he does not anticipate that to be the case. We're hoping she can keep her tonsils as 1) They're not a problem right now and 2) It's almost double the recovery time if they have to take her tonsils out.

In other Callie news, she's now 4 years old, she had a fabulous birthday party in February, she's been enjoying Story Hour in Eureka and Roanoke and she's looking forward to a really special trip this fall to Walt Disney World! Not only are we planning on visiting all the parks, but Callie has a special breakfast in Cinderella's Castle one morning and a princess makeover at the Bippiddi Boppiddi Boutique that afternoon. She is beside herself with excitement!

In Gabe news, he can pretty much communicate anything he wants you to know. He says lots of things and if you're not understanding he uses signals to let you know what he wants. I asked him about his birthday party (in just a little over a month). He said he wanted animals, then he roared like a lion, then he said outside. I asked "So you would like a safari birthday party with lots of animals?" "YEAH!" :) He's so cute.

Gabriel has become a typical boy in the fact that he would rather not go shopping. Not that he's "bad" on shopping trips, but he gets very restless and doesn't like all the sitting and riding that it entails. He likes to be at home, where he can be free range all day long, doing (mostly) as he pleases and not having anyone telling him where to go or what to do (within reason!). The biggest problem I'm having with Gabe vs. Callie is that Gabe doesn't do too well in church. With Callie, I told her to use her whisper voice in church a couple of times and we were done. Gabriel, on the other hand, I've had my hand clamped over his mouth most of the time he's upstairs with us for months now. I guess different personalities and boy vs. girl?!? Oh well, we'll figure it out sooner or later.

In mommy news, I'm busy planning, planning, planning. I'm planning preschool lessons, I'm planning Cousin Camp 2012, I'm planning our road trip to Disney, and then of course there's meal planning, financial planning, house planning, etc., etc., etc.! Good thing I like planning! :) My Scholastic Bowl students had a great season this year, with a conference record of 5-1 and brought home two tournament trophies (one third place and one second place). I was so proud of my team and all they accomplished this year. I am so blessed to be a small part of their time at school!

Daddy's here too! He's been busy carrying out my house plans . . . ha! He's also enjoying taking several classes at the gym, working at the school, and watching his kids grow and learn every day! He's taking a couple days off this week for Callie's surgery and will be home all day to make sure everything's going well with her recovery.

My next post (next Tuesday) will be a picture post I promise! I have to say I've done a pretty good job keeping up with pictures on my facebook page though, so there are just a few that I was saving for the blog!

We are so blessed! We continuously are in awe of all God has done for us, how far He's brought us, and how well looked after we are through trials big and small.

God bless you and yours this week! We love and miss all of our family and friends near and far!

Sunday Morning

Yesterday, Callie came into my room while I was finishing up getting ready for church by putting on my jewelry. Callie: Mommy, you're very pretty. Me: Callie, that's very sweet. Thank you! Callie: You're welcome. Daddy's pretty too! Me: Oh Callie, you need to go tell him that . . . :)

Meanwhile, back at the Farm . . .

We're having some exciting happenings around the Booker Farm so I thought I'd write a little bit about what's going on with the kiddos. Callie Callie is so excited that we now have two dogs and three cats. Their names are (dogs) Belle and Ariel, (cats) Duchess, Dixie, and Thomas O'Malley -- Tom for short. She is very excited to be wrapping up another school year and looking forward to our travels this summer. She is taking on more responsibility around the house (which I love) and doing an excellent job for the most part in taking care of all the animals. I'm certainly enjoying watching her grow and blossom in so many ways, but this is especially significant to me. Philip and I are really striving to raise our children to be responsible, caring, and kind adults! I'm now teaching her on Wednesday Night Bible Class and I love observing her for the first time in a classroom setting as her teacher as well. She is a delight to have in class, if I may s...

Sometimes it's hard . . .

I feel like I've finally awoken from a long, chaotic dream. The past couple of weeks have gone so much more smoothly. The first 3 (or so) months with a new baby just throws my world upside down and inside out. While I'm in it, I find it hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel --  that time when we all adapt to each other and find our new routine. I'm not saying I don't love it, because I do. I just don't love all of it! So I'll do a quick little catch up, write Nolan's birth story in another post and we'll be back on track. For a little bit at least. I think I've said before that I love writing. I mean love it. But for some reason, I've never been good at keeping a journal. I really want to. There are so many moments I want to make sure I write down and remember and I want to be good at keeping track of everything. But over and over again I prove it's just not something that I'm consistent with. It irritates me to the point th...
