Getting Closer: August Update

August was a month of trying to do some work around the house that had been neglected since it was mommy's first full of month of feeling good! Bring on the nesting!

We did have a little fun though and made our (nearly) annual trip to the Illinois State Fair. This is Callie, the old pro, milking a cow!

The guy helping everyone asked if she had ever milked a cow before to which she quickly replied, "Yes!" :) --The previous year at the State Fair, not one of her daily chores or anything!

Gabe and Callie got to sit in a real firetruck! Gabriel was especially excited about this part of our adventure.

Gabe also wanted to drive the fire truck. I was really hoping they did something to prevent him from turning on all the sirens and lights because that boy loves pushing buttons!

Of course, we stopped by the Churches of Christ Exhibit Evangelism booth where Gabriel got a caterpillar painted on his face.

So worn out! Love the sleeping baby pictures so much!! :)

Like I said, a lot of August was spent trying to play catch up for the past 3 months of yuck. Here is the FINALLY finished nursery. I really wish I had before pictures, but I apparently didn't take any . . . I always forget to take those! I especially am upset that I didn't get pictures of this room because it is such a HUGE difference before and after. Just imagine this room with all dark brown walls and cream carpet, mainly used for extra storage!

Finished nursery, just in time for Gabriel to move to his big boy room and open up a whole lot more sewing and craft projects for mommy to do in that room!

We also got back into our regular homeschooling projects by doing a quick review of our previous lessons and starting on some new ones.

 Silly number three!

Callie has really gotten into drawing and coloring lately. Here is one of her many projects!

Gabe has tentatively started trying to use the potty on occasion. This was his first success!

Callie's banana caterpillar snack for letter "C" week. She was very proud of her work!

A pretty butterfly craft while learning about caterpillar lifecycles!

3 caterpillars for our letter "C" and number 3 week!

Sunday Morning

Yesterday, Callie came into my room while I was finishing up getting ready for church by putting on my jewelry. Callie: Mommy, you're very pretty. Me: Callie, that's very sweet. Thank you! Callie: You're welcome. Daddy's pretty too! Me: Oh Callie, you need to go tell him that . . . :)

Meanwhile, back at the Farm . . .

We're having some exciting happenings around the Booker Farm so I thought I'd write a little bit about what's going on with the kiddos. Callie Callie is so excited that we now have two dogs and three cats. Their names are (dogs) Belle and Ariel, (cats) Duchess, Dixie, and Thomas O'Malley -- Tom for short. She is very excited to be wrapping up another school year and looking forward to our travels this summer. She is taking on more responsibility around the house (which I love) and doing an excellent job for the most part in taking care of all the animals. I'm certainly enjoying watching her grow and blossom in so many ways, but this is especially significant to me. Philip and I are really striving to raise our children to be responsible, caring, and kind adults! I'm now teaching her on Wednesday Night Bible Class and I love observing her for the first time in a classroom setting as her teacher as well. She is a delight to have in class, if I may s...

Sometimes it's hard . . .

I feel like I've finally awoken from a long, chaotic dream. The past couple of weeks have gone so much more smoothly. The first 3 (or so) months with a new baby just throws my world upside down and inside out. While I'm in it, I find it hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel --  that time when we all adapt to each other and find our new routine. I'm not saying I don't love it, because I do. I just don't love all of it! So I'll do a quick little catch up, write Nolan's birth story in another post and we'll be back on track. For a little bit at least. I think I've said before that I love writing. I mean love it. But for some reason, I've never been good at keeping a journal. I really want to. There are so many moments I want to make sure I write down and remember and I want to be good at keeping track of everything. But over and over again I prove it's just not something that I'm consistent with. It irritates me to the point th...
