Well, April has seemed very busy at times, very slow at others, and very fast all at the same time! It's amazing how one day seems to drag on and on and pretty soon you're at the end of the month and you wonder how you got there!
Callie has passed her second word list and is into AR reading now. She is very excited to bring home these books and read them by herself (for the most part). She is getting tested on them at school and earns bonus points and special prizes for each test in which she gets all the answers correct. From being quite timid in her reading at the beginning of the year, she has certainly gained a lot of confidence in this area and it's been amazing to see her grow and blossom in this area. Her favorite subject is still math and I will say that she seems to be exceptionally gifted (not a biased opinion at all) in this area. -- Anyone who knows me, knows that this comes from my husband's side of the family entirely, as I am lucky to get my checkbook balanced correctly! --
Probably the most exciting part of Callie's month was finding out that she's finally going to have a sister! We've had two ultrasounds now and both have confirmed that we are expecting a little girl in September. And no one is happier about that than Callie, though Mommy and Daddy are tied in a close second!
Gabriel seems to (slowly but surely) be catching on to how this whole baby thing goes down. He was looking at my picture wall the other day and saw the pictures that we took when I was pregnant with Nolan.
Gabriel: "That was when baby Nolan lived in your tummy?"
Me: "Yes, he was growing big and strong in Mommy's tummy so he could be healthy when he joined our family."
Gabriel: "And now there's baby Skylar living in your tummy?"
Me: "Yes, we're hoping to meet Skylar in September when she gets big and strong in Mommy's tummy."
Gabriel: "Ok!" as he runs off to find something to be the subject of his next line of questioning.
Gabriel seems to be getting more used to our schedule right as it's about to change again. Oh well! I'm hoping to start some preschooling this summer while working with Callie on a 1st grade workbook. Last time I tried to "homeschool" Callie, it left Gabriel feeling very left out, so I'm thinking this might make the difference. Hopefully, Nolan will be cooperative! Anyway, back to Gabe. He had yet another allergy rash this month. We're hoping we've tracked down the culprit as tree pollen is extremely high right now, so we put him on his medicine and are slowly weaning him off now to see if we're right and it's a seasonal problem or if it's something else. Hoping we get some answers soon!
Nolan has been very temperamental and demanding lately. It's been hard for me to find a balance between his perceived needs at this time, which are mostly wants really, and my own needs, real needs like eating and using the bathroom. He's also put us in a little bit of a quandary. It seems like some days, he needs a morning nap. But if I let him sleep long at all, it drastically interferes with his afternoon nap. I feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place. If I lay him down for the morning nap he'd like to take, not only do I lose my only "kid-free" hour which I use to work out and clean every day, but he loses a lot of the evening time with Daddy since he would be ready for bed so much earlier if his nap was 3-4 hours earlier than it is now. Any mommies out there that have dealt with this situation and have a good solution?
It's funny how I can feel like an old pro since he's my third child and yet I feel like there's so many things that he does that catch me completely off guard and I feel like I know nothing! For instance, his latest ornery trick? Taking my kitchen towels and hiding them all over the house. Neither of the other two ever thought of running off with my towels and yet, here I am, searching the house for my towels at least every other day! He certainly seems to enjoy keeping me on my toes!
Nolan also LOVES hats. And vehicles. And balancing things on his head. His favorite game is catch/fetch. -- So cute! -- He's got a funny little personality that I'm still trying to catch all the little nuances of. I enjoy (almost) every minute of being at home with my boys!
These busy, hectic days make for a very tired Mommy. I'm looking forward to a day when my after dinner routine involves doing something productive rather than collapsing in exhaustion.
Anyway, back to April happenings. Easter! One of my favorite holidays, mainly because I get special permission to get adorable matching outfits and it's the beginning of a new season with brighter colors. This Easter was no different.
I have so much fun planning the outfits for the kids. I feel so put together when our family goes out in coordinating duds!
We had a great time, waking up to a basket full of goodies from the Easter Bunny. Going to church together and celebrating the real reason for the holiday. Spending the afternoon with a lovely group of our family, nice brunch, and a gorgeous day for an outdoor Easter egg hunt.
Can't leave out the token picture of Mommy and Skylar!
Hope you enjoyed my quick April update and the pictures!
Happy Spring from the Booker 5 (and a half!) God bless you and yours this upcoming weekend! We have yet another busy Saturday and Sunday this week. :) The fun never stops!
