Road Trip to Boston: Days 4, 5, 6, & 7

Well, we've been in Boston for the past three days and it's been a blast. We had our very own tour guides who personally showed us around the area, provided a place for us to sleep and eat, and even do our laundry! (Thanks Schirer-Suter family!)

Day 4

We arrived in Boston in the early afternoon after taking it easy in the morning since we had a lot of early starts at the beginning of the week. We even took the longer way around to Beverly so we could avoid the toll roads, which was fun because we got to see a lot of old houses and the "countryside". We ate and arrived at the Schirer-Suter house. Uncle Myron came home from work to greet us and Cordelia and Cedric were at home as well. Then, Uncle Myron took us to see where he works at Gordan College. It is a very pretty campus and they are doing some big building projects which has really benefited the campus. We spent the evening eating the wonderful meal that Cordelia made.

Day 5

The Schirer-Suter Family took us on a guided tour of the coast up to Newbury Port. We stopped at a couple of antique stores along the way and ate at a wonderful little restaurant called "Woodman's". Unfortunately, it started to rain while we were in Newbury Port so we were unable to walk around like we wanted to, but we still got a pretty good feel for the city and were able to stop in a couple of shops along the way. We spent the evening catching up and once again eating the wonderful meal Cordelia made for us.

Day 6

Myron had to work, so Cordelia and Cedric took us on a guided tour of Salem, MA, which was actually a booming port city before the famous Salem Witch Trials, which I didn't know. Callie and Cedric played along the pier and enjoyed being close to the water and boats. We walked around town which had a lot of neat old buildings and houses. We spent the afternoon doing some much needed laundry and then went to church that evening.

Day 7

Today! We headed out to Boston, MA which is about an hour's drive from Beverly. We parked and walked around the city, again seeing all sorts of interesting architecture and apartments that were really old! (Something I love to do!) We ate lunch in a large food court that had all the choices you could possibly imagine and more for varieties of food. Callie has been into this thing lately that she will eat whatever I'm eating, but she'll leave Philip's food alone. Today, we ordered the exact same thing, a hot roast beef sandwich and fries to share. Callie would have nothing to do with Philip's sandwich, but ate at least half of mine. And the fries? Well, they were on Philip's plate, so he would hand me some, and then Callie would take them off my plate! Maybe she doesn't realize that I might need a few extra calories right now?!?!

Anyway, funny story time from today. Callie turned around to "Cebric" (her name for Cedric) and started saying "Hi Cebric! Hi Cebric! Hi Cebric!" over and over and over again. Cordelia says to Cedric, "Cedric, Callie is saying hi to you." And Cedric sighs, "I know, she does it all the time!"
Her other favorite phrase with Cedric is "Mon, Cebric, Mon!" (Her version of Come on) and she motions for him to follow.

Tonight, we started packing the car because we're leaving tomorrow and once again feasted with the Schirer-Suter family. We've had a wonderful visit to the Boston area and now it's time to head back toward Illinois! We'll be seeing some of you soon and wish the rest of you a happy weekend!

God bless you and yours!

Sunday Morning

Yesterday, Callie came into my room while I was finishing up getting ready for church by putting on my jewelry. Callie: Mommy, you're very pretty. Me: Callie, that's very sweet. Thank you! Callie: You're welcome. Daddy's pretty too! Me: Oh Callie, you need to go tell him that . . . :)

Meanwhile, back at the Farm . . .

We're having some exciting happenings around the Booker Farm so I thought I'd write a little bit about what's going on with the kiddos. Callie Callie is so excited that we now have two dogs and three cats. Their names are (dogs) Belle and Ariel, (cats) Duchess, Dixie, and Thomas O'Malley -- Tom for short. She is very excited to be wrapping up another school year and looking forward to our travels this summer. She is taking on more responsibility around the house (which I love) and doing an excellent job for the most part in taking care of all the animals. I'm certainly enjoying watching her grow and blossom in so many ways, but this is especially significant to me. Philip and I are really striving to raise our children to be responsible, caring, and kind adults! I'm now teaching her on Wednesday Night Bible Class and I love observing her for the first time in a classroom setting as her teacher as well. She is a delight to have in class, if I may s...

Sometimes it's hard . . .

I feel like I've finally awoken from a long, chaotic dream. The past couple of weeks have gone so much more smoothly. The first 3 (or so) months with a new baby just throws my world upside down and inside out. While I'm in it, I find it hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel --  that time when we all adapt to each other and find our new routine. I'm not saying I don't love it, because I do. I just don't love all of it! So I'll do a quick little catch up, write Nolan's birth story in another post and we'll be back on track. For a little bit at least. I think I've said before that I love writing. I mean love it. But for some reason, I've never been good at keeping a journal. I really want to. There are so many moments I want to make sure I write down and remember and I want to be good at keeping track of everything. But over and over again I prove it's just not something that I'm consistent with. It irritates me to the point th...
