Goals & Schedules

My Thanksgiving table decorations.

The Schirer-Suters and the Suters came to visit, and ate a meal at our house. I was happy I could repay a small part of the hospitality they have shown us over the years!

Callie's first stick person. I wanted to keep it, but it was the paper covering the table . . . so I took a picture!

Gabriel eating a sugar cookie made by the Granny Great!

Well, I had been doing pretty good with my new schedule. I've followed it to the letter most days, except for the last 2 Tuesdays, I didn't update the blog.

The first Tuesday, I have no excuse. I sat down with a cold glass of water after my work out fully intending to update the blog after I rested for a minute only to be startled awake by the sound of Callie coming down the stairs at the end of her nap. Oops!

The second Tuesday, I had made up my mind that some things were not going to get done while preparing for and entertaining our family over Thanksgiving & once again, the blogging did not get done. So, I apologize to my faithful readers, of which there are approximately 2, for once again denying you the pleasure of a family update. :)

Well, as you can see from my explanation of bloglessness (hee hee), we've had an eventful couple weeks. From my last update, I now know that little man is getting in 4, yes FOUR, molars. Explaining why he has not been in the best of moods (and why he just woke up screaming as a started this post, reminding me that I had forgotten to give him his tylenol before naptime! -- Rats!)

Other than that, Gabriel is quite the ham. He was going around today saying "Ho, ho, ho!" because the little boy I'm babysitting calls Santa Clause "Ho, ho!" :) He is inquisitive and very observant. He calls all girls "Mama" and all boys "Dada". I don't know, but I think gender recognition of any kind at his age is pretty rare. But, of course, I am the mother, so I think he's pretty special anyway.

Callie is ecstatic about Christmas this year. She doesn't know what she wants for Christmas, she's just excited about the whole thing! She's clever too. We put up our Christmas decorations and of course, the big deal is the Christmas tree, especially when the lights come on after 4:30. So the other night when Philip told Callie it was time to clean up her toys, she said, "Wait! I have a great idea. You clean this side, and this side, and out here (read: all of it!) and I'll sit and watch the Christmas tree! That's a good idea?" Philip answered with a prompt, "No."

She also can help you understand what she's talking about if she doesn't know the name of something. The other day, she pointed out the window while we were driving and said, "Hey! I've been there with Mimi and Grandpa!" We didn't see what she was pointing at so I asked her what she was talking about. She explains, "You know, the fire station!" We thought for a moment . . . "You mean the Hibatchi Grill, when they cooked our food at the table?" "Yeah!" We got a good laugh out of that one too!

As I said before, I've made a schedule for my days. I thought for a long time that my "Get it Done!" Attitude would not mesh well with a schedule. I wouldn't like stopping something just because it was "time" to do something else. However, I've found that when I leave plenty of time for something, i.e. an hour for something that would normally take 15 minutes, it gives me a good building block for my day & has built in allotments for all those distractions that come along from the kids. And if things don't go exactly as planned, it's not the end of the world. But it has helped a lot, just in seeing how much time I have during the day and where I can fit new or extra things in. So, now you know! Tuesday is blog day! Hopefully it will be something that I can continue most all the time. :)

Sunday Morning

Yesterday, Callie came into my room while I was finishing up getting ready for church by putting on my jewelry. Callie: Mommy, you're very pretty. Me: Callie, that's very sweet. Thank you! Callie: You're welcome. Daddy's pretty too! Me: Oh Callie, you need to go tell him that . . . :)

Meanwhile, back at the Farm . . .

We're having some exciting happenings around the Booker Farm so I thought I'd write a little bit about what's going on with the kiddos. Callie Callie is so excited that we now have two dogs and three cats. Their names are (dogs) Belle and Ariel, (cats) Duchess, Dixie, and Thomas O'Malley -- Tom for short. She is very excited to be wrapping up another school year and looking forward to our travels this summer. She is taking on more responsibility around the house (which I love) and doing an excellent job for the most part in taking care of all the animals. I'm certainly enjoying watching her grow and blossom in so many ways, but this is especially significant to me. Philip and I are really striving to raise our children to be responsible, caring, and kind adults! I'm now teaching her on Wednesday Night Bible Class and I love observing her for the first time in a classroom setting as her teacher as well. She is a delight to have in class, if I may s...

Sometimes it's hard . . .

I feel like I've finally awoken from a long, chaotic dream. The past couple of weeks have gone so much more smoothly. The first 3 (or so) months with a new baby just throws my world upside down and inside out. While I'm in it, I find it hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel --  that time when we all adapt to each other and find our new routine. I'm not saying I don't love it, because I do. I just don't love all of it! So I'll do a quick little catch up, write Nolan's birth story in another post and we'll be back on track. For a little bit at least. I think I've said before that I love writing. I mean love it. But for some reason, I've never been good at keeping a journal. I really want to. There are so many moments I want to make sure I write down and remember and I want to be good at keeping track of everything. But over and over again I prove it's just not something that I'm consistent with. It irritates me to the point th...
