Happy Halloween!

Yesterday was, of course, Halloween. I had planned our family costume to be Callie and Gabe in the bathtub (wagon) with Gabe as the rubber ducky. But, as is a woman's prerogative, I changed my mind.

We instead went as a lucky ducky, funky monkey, funny bunny, and fat cat. I titled our Halloween theme "The Rhyme Time Bookers"! We did not get very many family photos yet as we have a costume party for our church group on Sunday, so I thought it would be a better time to try to get photos then.

The kids really loved trick or treating. Gabriel got especially into it. The first house, we showed him how to pick one treat out of the bowl and then put it in his bucket. The next house, he walked right up, took a treat and put it in. He lugged that bucket all over town, refusing to let us carry it. When we had to get back in the car, I put it down on the floor. He got so mad! He cried all the way to the next set of houses, until we got him out and handed his bucket back. Then he waddled up to the next house, eager for the next person to come to the door and let him choose his treats. It was really cute.

Callie really enjoyed trick or treating as well this year. She had to tell Granny and Paw Paw and Mimi and Grandpa when they asked about her hair, "Don't worry, it's my wig!" She was polite at most houses, saying thank you or Happy Halloween to everyone. Sometimes she would get on a little shy kick and not say anything. We'll have to work on the "Trick or Treat!" a little more for next year. She didn't say that very much, despite our prompting.

Some people even gave Philip and I candy because we took the time to dress up. I tell Philip all the time that there's only so long the kids will be willing to be funny with us before they start thinking we're the "embarrassing" parents. I plan on taking full advantage of it while it lasts!

Other news, I'm 27! Crazy, I know. 1 more year closer to real adulthood . . . 30! haha! I had a good birthday with a kid free weekend to get some things done around the house and a family lunch on Sunday. It was a nice, relaxing, and yet, left me feeling very accomplished, weekend.

I've established a household schedule which seems to be helping everyone get more accomplished and in general, things seem to be going very well! We're looking forward to some company from overseas this Thanksgiving (and some from the states too!) and a stay at home Christmas with a nice relaxing family oriented holiday . . . maybe. :) It depends how Philip's work projects are going, but hopefully, we'll have at least a little down time all together. It's going to be a busy couple of months, but I'm energized and excited!

Thanks for reading my update. Hope all is going well with you and your loved ones! God Bless!

Sunday Morning

Yesterday, Callie came into my room while I was finishing up getting ready for church by putting on my jewelry. Callie: Mommy, you're very pretty. Me: Callie, that's very sweet. Thank you! Callie: You're welcome. Daddy's pretty too! Me: Oh Callie, you need to go tell him that . . . :)

Meanwhile, back at the Farm . . .

We're having some exciting happenings around the Booker Farm so I thought I'd write a little bit about what's going on with the kiddos. Callie Callie is so excited that we now have two dogs and three cats. Their names are (dogs) Belle and Ariel, (cats) Duchess, Dixie, and Thomas O'Malley -- Tom for short. She is very excited to be wrapping up another school year and looking forward to our travels this summer. She is taking on more responsibility around the house (which I love) and doing an excellent job for the most part in taking care of all the animals. I'm certainly enjoying watching her grow and blossom in so many ways, but this is especially significant to me. Philip and I are really striving to raise our children to be responsible, caring, and kind adults! I'm now teaching her on Wednesday Night Bible Class and I love observing her for the first time in a classroom setting as her teacher as well. She is a delight to have in class, if I may s...

Sometimes it's hard . . .

I feel like I've finally awoken from a long, chaotic dream. The past couple of weeks have gone so much more smoothly. The first 3 (or so) months with a new baby just throws my world upside down and inside out. While I'm in it, I find it hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel --  that time when we all adapt to each other and find our new routine. I'm not saying I don't love it, because I do. I just don't love all of it! So I'll do a quick little catch up, write Nolan's birth story in another post and we'll be back on track. For a little bit at least. I think I've said before that I love writing. I mean love it. But for some reason, I've never been good at keeping a journal. I really want to. There are so many moments I want to make sure I write down and remember and I want to be good at keeping track of everything. But over and over again I prove it's just not something that I'm consistent with. It irritates me to the point th...
